BIOGRAPHY
In the CWGC Debt of Honour website it is recorded that Fusilier Albert John Young (No. 6977675) and Lance Corporal George Henry Young (No. 6976947) were sons of Edward and Margaret Young and nephews of Robert Maguire of Holywood, Co. Down.
During the Second World War both brothers served with the 1st Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Early in 1942 the 1st Battalion was flown to Burma to help stem the Japanese advance. British Forces were compelled to retreat and both brothers were killed during very heavy fighting on 18 and 19 April. They were killed in Burma on successive days – Lance Corporal George Henry Young on 18 April 1942 and Fusilier Albert John Young on 19 April 1942.
Albert John Young was born on 14 March 1915 at 55 Downshire Road, Holywood and he was a son of Albert Edward and Margaret Young (nee Maguire) who were married around 1905/1906. Albert Edward Young was born around 1881 in Cowes, Isle of Wight and in 1911 he was living at 96 Madrid Street, Belfast with his parents, Robert John and Harriet Young, his unmarried sister Charlotte Young, and his married sister, Emily Jane Lambert, who was recorded as being the Head of the household. Albert Edward Young (aged 30) was working as a male nurse, he had been married for five years and had one child.
