BIOGRAPHY

Flying Officer Stanislaw Podobinski was born on 7 July 1918 and he was based at RAF Ballyhalbert when he died.

It was reported in the Press that on 14 December 1943 Flying Officer Podobinski of 303 Polish Fighter Squadron was lost while returning to Ballyhalbert from Toome in County Antrim.  He was on a training flight and off-course in adverse weather when his Supermarine Spitfire aircraft (EN856) crashed into a hillside two miles south of Snaefell Mountain in the Isle of Man.  Flying Officer Podobinski was 25 when he died and he is commemorated on Panel 55 of the Polish War Memorial at Northolt, London.
