BIOGRAPHY
After Lance Corporal William Murray McKelvey (No. 14427503) was killed, his sister Edie and brother-in-law Joe Allen, placed a Killed in Action notice in the 9 December 1944 edition of the County Down Spectator. Edie and Joe Allen lived in Springwell Road, Groomsport.
William Murray McKelvey was a son of William and Elizabeth McKelvey (nee Harper) of Laurencetown, Co. Down and he was a grandson of Alexander and Mary McKelvey (nee Murray).
During the Second World War Lance Corporal William Murray McKelvey (No. 14427503) served with the 1st Battalion, Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) and he was 20 when he was killed in action on 2 November 1944 during the Battle of Walcheren Causeway. He was buried in Bergen-op-Zoom War Cemetery, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands, and there is an inscription on his CWGC headstone:
