BIOGRAPHY

John McFarlane was born in the Republic of Ireland and he lived in Belfast.  During the Second World War Rifleman John McFarlane served with the 70th Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles and he was 18 years old and single when he died of cerebral contusions on 23 October 1941 at Jackson’s Field in Holywood.  He had been knocked down by an Army utility vehicle.  He was buried on 25 October in a collective grave in Holywood Cemetery.

The two other men buried in this grave were Fusilier Frederick Bloomfield and Driver Sidney John Wren.
