BIOGRAPHY
Lance Bombardier James Murphy Mair (No. 1811102) is commemorated on the Mair family grave headstone in Redburn Cemetery, Holywood. Born in 1919 in Govan, Glasgow James Mair was married there in 1941. During the Second World War he served with 121 (the Leicestershire Regiment) Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. He was 26 when he died of wounds on 2 May 1945 during the Allied advance through Germany. His wife, Frances Anita Mair, was born on 20 February 1918 and she died on 8 January 1998. On the headstone in Redburn Cemetery she is described as ‘an irreplaceable mother and grandma’.
