BIOGRAPHY

Edward Lewandowski was born on 2 September 1919 and during the Second World War he served with 6 Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit (AACU).  He was based for a time at RAF Newtownards and was killed during a training flight on 30 April 1942 when the Westland Lysander Mark II aircraft (P1731) he was piloting collided with a balloon cable at RAF Belfast and spun to the ground.

Sergeant Edward Lewandowski (No. P783109) was 22 when he died, he was buried in Belfast (Milltown) Roman Catholic Cemetery and he is commemorated on Panel 38 of the Polish Air Force Memorial at Northolt in London.
