BIOGRAPHY

Driver Ronald James Buckingham’s wife Molly, who was then living at 30 Osborne Park, Bangor, placed a Roll of Honour notice in the 17 August 1946 edition of the County Down Spectator.

Ronald James Buckingham’s birth was registered in the third quarter of 1914 in Edmonton, Middlesex and he was a son of Albert Ernest and Sarah Buckingham (nee Jakes) who lived at 8 Church Lane, Silver Street, Enfield, Middlesex.  Albert Ernest Buckingham worked as a carter on the Great Northern Railway and his marriage to Sarah Jakes was registered in the first quarter of 1902 in Caxton, Cambridgeshire.  They had at least four children – Ernest Reginald, Albert George, Frank Irvine and Ronald James.

The marriage of Ronald James Buckingham and Edith Molly Kirkwood was registered in the second quarter of 1940 in Edmonton, Middlesex.

During the Second World War Ronald James Buckingham served as a driver with the Royal Army Service Corps and he was 30 when he died in Italy on 14 August 1944 as German forces tried to stop the Allied advance.

Driver Ronald James Buckingham (No. T/217710) was buried in Assisi War Cemetery, Italy and ther is an inscription on his CWGC headstone:
