BIOGRAPHY
It is recorded in the CWGC Debt of Honour website that Sergeant Charles Henry Barton (No. 1111461) was a son of James and Edith Marie Barton of Bloomfield, Belfast.
James Barton was born on 16 October 1891 at 27 Solway Street, Belfast, and he was a son of Henry and Sarah Barton (nee Armstrong). Henry Barton, who was born in Scotland, worked a joiner and he and Sarah had at least eight children:

James Barton worked as a fitter, and he married Edith Marie Fye. Their son, Charles Henry Barton was born on 30 September 1919 at 20 Dufferin Avenue, Bangor.
During the Second World War Charles Henry Barton served with the RAF.
Sergeant Charles Henry Barton (No. 1111461) died on 7 November 1942 during a Hurricane training exercise while serving in India with RAF 79 Squadron. He was the Pilot of Hawker Hurricane airplane (BN692) which spun to the ground while carrying out aerobatic manoeuvres at Kanchrapara Airfield, West Bengal, India. Sergeant Charles Henry Barton (No. 1111461) took off at 1553 hours for formation flying practice alongside an airplane flown by Flying Officer Bowes. Sergeant Barton’s Hurricane spun out at 1640 hours crashing to the ground and killing the pilot. The aircraft was a write-off.
Sergeant Charles Henry Barton (No. 1111461) has no known grave and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial. He is also commemorated on the Barton family grave surround in Belfast City Cemetery (Glenalina Extension) (Grave Q.59).
