BIOGRAPHY
In the Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914 – 1919 database it is recorded that Rifleman James Stewart (No. 18/831) was born in Kircubbin.
James Stewart was born on 26 February 1898 in Kircubbin and he was baptised in Kircubbin Parish Church of Ireland Church.
James Stewart was a son of Jane Stewart who worked as a domestic servant and lived in Kircubbin.
James Stewart enlisted in Newtownards in November 1915 and he joined the 18th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles.
Rifleman James Stewart (No. 18/831) went to the Front where he served with the 12th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles in 108th Brigade of the 36th (Ulster) Division and he was killed in action on 15 August 1917, the day before the Battle of Langemarck.
Rifleman James Stewart (No. 18/831) was 19 when he died and he has no known grave.
