BIOGRAPHY
The McWha family farmed in the townland of Ballyrolly, Carrowdore and Dupree William McWha was a son of Francis (Frank) and Alice Annie Ellen McWha (nee Parsons) who lived in Murchison, Nelson in the South Island when they moved to New Zealand.
Francis (Frank) McWha and Alice Annie Ellen Parsons were married in 1888 and they had four children, all of whom were born in Murchison:
Francis Robert (born 1899)
Dupree William (born 16 November 1892)
Robert John (born 1895)
David Leslie (born 1910)
Dupree William McWha was killed in action on 18 April 1918 and one year later his cousins, Isabel McWha and Isabel Finlay, placed an Our Heroes – In Memoriam notice in the 19 April 1919 edition of the Newtownards Chronicle.
Isabel McWha’s father, James McWha, and her uncle, Dupree McWha, were both farmers in Ballyrolly, Carrowdore.
