BIOGRAPHY

Arthur Haymes was a son of Arthur and Ellen Haymes who lived at 24 Walter Street, Blackburn.  Company Sergeant Major Arthur Haymes served with the 1st Battalion Norfolk Regiment and whilst stationed in Holywood he was a member of Holywood Masonic Lodge No. 254.

Company Sergeant Major Arthur Haymes died on 17 December 1917 and was buried in Blackburn Cemetery alongside his father who died on 30 September 1915.   There is an inscription on his CWGC headstone:

Aged 57 years when he died, Arthur Haymes Senior (No. 9098) served as a Company Sergeant Major with the 17th Battalion Manchester Regiment and, like his son, he is commemorated in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) Debt of Honour Website.
