BIOGRAPHY

In Ireland’s Memorial Records 1914 – 1918 it is recorded that Patrick Hamill was born in Newtownards.

Private Patrick Hamill served in the South African War and after the outbreak of the Great War he re-joined the colours in Belfast.

Private Patrick Hamill served with the 6th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers in 31st Brigade of the 10th (Irish) Division and he was killed in action at Gallipoli on 9 August 1915.

Private Patrick Hamill has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.

Private Patrick Hamill’s home address was 24 Alton Street, Belfast and he is commemorated in the Belfast Book of Honour (Page 244) where his rank is recorded as Lance Sergeant.

Private Patrick Hamill left his property and effects to his widow Mary.
