BIOGRAPHY
Matthew Dornan was born on 11 September 1889 at 40 Beech Street, Belfast and he was a son of Joseph and Mary Dornan (nee McGreevy, sometimes Magreevy, sometimes McGreavey) who were married on 26 February 1886 in Clifton Street Presbyterian Church Belfast. Joseph Dornan from Royal Street, Belfast was a son of Matthew Dornan, a labourer. Mary McGreevy from Beech Street, Belfast was a daughter of Hugb McGreevy, a labourer.
The Dornan family lived at 40 Beech Street, Belfast; in Lower Ballysillan, Belfast; in Lawnview Street, Belfast and at 247 Mayo Street, Belfast.
Joseph Dornan worked as a brickyard labourer and he and Mary had at least four children:
Hugh (born 22 June 1887 at 40 Beech Street, Belfast)
Matthew (born 11 September 1889 at 40 Beech Street, Belfast)
Elizabeth (born around 1891)
Agnes Patton (born 14 June 1895 in Lower Ballysillan, Belfast)
Mary Dornan died of heart failure following chronic bronchitis on 6 April 1911 (aged 49) and she was buried in Belfast City Cemetery (Grave A1/5/442).
Private Matthew Dornan (No. 8956) served with the 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and he was 29 when he died of pneumonia at 23 Ruby Street, Bangor on 13 February 1919.
Private Matthew Dornan was buried in Bangor Cemetery, Newtownards Road, Bangor and he is commemorated on his CWGC headstone.
